Intermediate Workshop: Throwing LARGER (June 4 & 11)

Ready to increase the size of your work? This workshop by Saubhagya Shrestha will cover two sets of skills for throwing larger pottery: Throwing with larger volumes of clay, and two-part throwing. 

This class is open to intermediate ceramicists. Students should be able to confidently throw a 1lb cylinder, but you do not need to be experienced with throwing large volumes of clay. This workshop will help you increase your own personal ceiling, whether that’s 2lbs or 20lbs! Students must be age 16+.

Over two sessions, you will learn the fundamental skills for increasing the size of your pots.

Session 1 will focus on throwing larger single-volume forms:

• Centring larger volumes of clay
• Pulling techniques for creating taller cylinders
• Shaping and refining larger forms

Session 2 will focus on throwing larger using the two-part method:

• Throwing sturdy cylinders and preparing them for joining
• Joining two cylinders by flipping one onto the other and combining them into a single form
• Shaping and refining the final two-part piece

Between the two sessions and for two weeks following, students are granted unlimited open studio access from 10am-10pm everyday, which allows you to trim and glaze your pieces if you’d like. Class fee includes 1 bag of clay and firing of up to 2 pieces. Students may choose to buy more clay and/or have additional pieces fired for a small fee ($5 per piece). You can pick up your finished work 2-3 weeks after the you've glazed them. 

Class is held on two Thursdays, 6:00pm-8:30pm, at 853 Hiawatha Pl S in Seattle. The classes occur on June 4 and 11. Open studio access ends June 25.
