Take your wheel-thrown work to the next level! This workshop by Saubhagya Shrestha will cover several methods for altering your wheel-thrown pottery both on and off the wheel.
This class is open to intermediate ceramicists. You should be able to center 2+ lbs of clay and throw an even, well balanced cylinder. Students must be age 16+.
Over there sessions, you will learn a handful of techniques for altering your wheel thrown work, including twists, divots, shifts, insets, darts, and crackle (using sodium silicate).
Session 1 will focus on throwing forms and on-wheel alteration:
- Refresher on throwing techniques for tall cylinders
- Wet-altering forms to create spirated ridges, divots, and crumple
Session 2 will focus on altering leather-hard vessels:
- Cutting and joining leather-hard pots to create shifted forms and insets
Session 3 will focus on surface alteration:
- Crackle surfaces using sodium silicate
- Soft surface alteration using slips
Between sessions and for two weeks after the last class, students are granted unlimited open studio access from 10am-10pm everyday. Students can use open studio to glaze your pieces (we will not have a designated class for glazing). Class fee includes 1 bag of clay and firing of up to 3 pieces. Students may choose to buy more clay and/or have additional pieces fired for a small fee ($5 per piece). You can pick up your finished work 2-3 weeks after the you've glazed them.
Class is held from 6:00pm-8:30pm on Wednesdays at 853 Hiawatha Pl S in Seattle. The classes occur on Sept 2, 9, and 16. Open studio access ends Sep 30.
If you need to cancel your purchase, we can offer a full refund less a $25 restock fee up to 14 days prior to the first class and 50% refund within 14 days of the start of class.
