This 4-week class series will introduce the core techniques for hand-built functional ceramics, including coiling, slab-making, joins, slumping, and using formers. We will also cover various decorating techniques, including engobes and underglazes, sgrafitto, and glazing. This class is geared towards beginners to handbuilding. Students who have taken wheel throwing are welcome and will learn new skills to complement a wheel practice. This class is available to individuals age 16 and older.
During the class, you will crate hand-built mugs, bowls and plates using fundamental handbuilding techniques, with the opportunity to transform these basic forms into planters, pourers, and other creative forms. Class fee includes one bag of clay. By the end of the series, you’ll have 3-4 pieces to take home with you. You will be able to pick up your finished work 2-3 weeks after your last class.
Class is held weekly on Wednesdays from 6-8:30pm at 853 Hiawatha Pl S in Seattle. The first class is on June 4th, with the remaining classes on the next 3 Wednesdays. There are no makeup classes, but each class will start with a brief review of the prior week’s content. Outside of class, students are granted access to the studio 10am-10pm, 7 days per week (with some studio closures due to other classes and events).
If you need to cancel your purchase, we can offer a full refund up to 7 days prior to the first class.
